BYU Football

I can't believe I'm writing a post with BYU in the title. But since this is what this post is going to be about it seemed appropriate! I went to my first BYU game with my Dad and son Taylor yesterday. For those of you that know me, I am NOT a Y fan. Don't hate 'em but don't normally cheer for them either! I happened to be in Provo finishing up at a scrapaway weekend and my Dad called and said he had an extra ticket. He was already taking Taylor and I decided to go too! Now, being the good daughter and mom that I am, and quite frankly I wasn't sure I'd be let in the stadium wearing my red shirt and black jacket, I went to the mall and bought a *gasp* BYU shirt. I know, CRAZY!!!! But I wanted to fit in and I must say, I look pretty hot in blue!! hahahaha My Dad and Taylor were surprised but thrilled and off to the game we went. Man, you cougar fans really know how to pack a stadium! There were seas of blue everywhere! Walking down the streets, through parking lots, and frankly anywhere you looked, you guessed it.....BLUE!!! My Dad is so cute, he took me to this tent with food and had me meet some friends of his. I guess they're big shots there or something. Their names are on the scoreboard and they were very nice. We went to our seats, talked to a few more people and the game began. Touchdowns were great because they sing their Rise and Shout song and rarararara after each one!! I almost had it completely down by the end, the cougars scored so many times! Taylor had a friend and his Dad that were there too that came and sat by us at half time for the remainder of the game. They preferred our seats over theirs. We were in the shade the entire time and just 30 rows up from the field! It was fun to hang with my Dad and son and enjoy something with them that they loves so much! I can't say I'm completely converted but I will say I had a fabulous time! And I'd probably go again! Thanks Dad for a wonderful evening with two of my favorite men!!

My Education.....My Future

I just got home from my kids school and from listening to the President of the United States give an amazing speech to the youth of this country. There has been a lot of negativity surrounding this address today and many schools nationwide opted out of having the children listen to it. Many kids in my own community went to other classrooms because parents didn't want their kids hearing the President speak to them. So sad!! I took three pages of notes and am grateful I was able to hear what he had to say. Why would parents not want their kids to be encouraged to stay in school, set goals, and to strive for and achieve anything they want to do or be?? He encouraged them to be respectful, to pay attention, listen to not just their teachers, but to other adults who want to see and help them succeed. And to work hard! He talked about facing our challenges and that failure is not what defines us. But that it teaches us and helps us to know what we can change and do better. I don't think our kids are the only ones that need to do these things either. We all can set goals and strive to do better in our lives. And lastly he talked about not being afraid to ask for help. Being able to admit that we can't do something alone is a sign of great strength and not of weakness like we sometimes tell ourselves it is. We need to help our kids be all they can be and support them in all they want to do in bettering their lives and becoming a responsible, educated generation. And to take that same advice ourselves and do all we can to set and achieve goals, be they big or small, just set them and make a commitment to ourselves to follow through with what we decide to do. And to face our challenges and know that we can come out stronger despite the adversities that come our way. I am proud to be an American and want my children to be respectful, responsible kids and any President willing to take the time to speak to the youth of this great nation is worth listening to. I may not agree with all he is laying out for this nation but when it comes to the kids, he was an inspiration today. May God Bless America and all that lies ahead!!
