My Education.....My Future

I just got home from my kids school and from listening to the President of the United States give an amazing speech to the youth of this country. There has been a lot of negativity surrounding this address today and many schools nationwide opted out of having the children listen to it. Many kids in my own community went to other classrooms because parents didn't want their kids hearing the President speak to them. So sad!! I took three pages of notes and am grateful I was able to hear what he had to say. Why would parents not want their kids to be encouraged to stay in school, set goals, and to strive for and achieve anything they want to do or be?? He encouraged them to be respectful, to pay attention, listen to not just their teachers, but to other adults who want to see and help them succeed. And to work hard! He talked about facing our challenges and that failure is not what defines us. But that it teaches us and helps us to know what we can change and do better. I don't think our kids are the only ones that need to do these things either. We all can set goals and strive to do better in our lives. And lastly he talked about not being afraid to ask for help. Being able to admit that we can't do something alone is a sign of great strength and not of weakness like we sometimes tell ourselves it is. We need to help our kids be all they can be and support them in all they want to do in bettering their lives and becoming a responsible, educated generation. And to take that same advice ourselves and do all we can to set and achieve goals, be they big or small, just set them and make a commitment to ourselves to follow through with what we decide to do. And to face our challenges and know that we can come out stronger despite the adversities that come our way. I am proud to be an American and want my children to be respectful, responsible kids and any President willing to take the time to speak to the youth of this great nation is worth listening to. I may not agree with all he is laying out for this nation but when it comes to the kids, he was an inspiration today. May God Bless America and all that lies ahead!!

Amen! (You are singing my song, check out my blog from a few days ago!) I totally agree that any president willing to take time to talk directly to our kids deserves our respect, and deserves to be listened to. I can't wait to talk to my kids about it when they get home! Politics aside what a great opportunity for our youth, I feel bad for those who did not get the chance to hear it.

It's in print if you would like a copy!

I agree, it was a great speech! I don't know why people think he is out to get them? My kids were excited to hear it.

Well said TeKarri. I feel sorry for those kids who's parents chose to censor the speech on their behalf. While it is their choice to raise their children how they see fit, it's troubling we wouldn't want to cultivate our children into free thinkers. Seeing as we are at the bottom at the bottom of industrialized nations when it comes to education, you would think a little motivational speech to get the school year started would be welcomed. Oh, well you can't save all the idiots...But honestly, very well eloquent and well said from a parent of a school age child.
